The "Sun King"

Our newest wall lamp. Brass leaves surround the hand made resin lens which glows in tones of amber and honey. Hand Made by Art Donovan in a very limited edition. 12" in diameter with a 4" projection and uses 40 watts.

A glowing halo around the sun and a burnished, bronze crescent moon float atop the world's thinnest table lamp. 1/8" thick stainless steel posts in black with a brass and mahogany base plate and continuous dimmer.

The design hints at something astronomical and possibly antique but with a minimalist twist. About 25" tall and 22" wide. Designed and hand made by Art Donovan in an extremely limited quantity. Email us for details or through the 'comments' section.

"La Luna" Wall Torchiere

When I was lecturing at the Oxford University Museum of the History of Science, I couldn't help but absorb the influence of antiquity. This collection of one of kind designs is the result, but we feel that 'La Luna' would be truly miraculous in a thoroughly modern setting.

This pair of hand made, one-of-a-kind wall lamps feature hand painted lampshades that glow in natural tones of a full moon at rising. The posts of the lamps are solid bronze and cast acrylic with the overall height of the lamps being 33". The lamp shade is 13" in diameter and 5" deep with the sides of the shade painted in what we call, "Museum Blue" (textured, translucent tones of burnt umber and phthalo blue). Each of the two Rococo lamp bases are mirror images of each other with slight variations. Signed and Dated by Art Donovan. More views are available by request. (back to our collection)

'Parish Carriage' Wall Lanterns

"Lunar Mandala" Outdoor Illuminated Full Moon and Antique Clock

I created the Lunar Mandala at the request of my wife, Leslie. It is an updated Steampunk adaptation of the antique convex mirrors from the American Colonial era.

Very important- the deeply textured rust finish guarantees that it will appear natural in an outdoor environment. Also, since it is hung between the two (moving) oak trees, it was tricky to mount . At night the full moon softly glows as does the antique clock face that I designed. The clock glows by ultra violet light from within in tones of orange, purple, green and old parchment. 36" tall x 18" deep. Signed and Dated. One of a Kind. There are some additional photos here.

Since I work with so many materials, I've been asked what kind of tools I use. Actually I use only what's absolutely necessary. Of course I have fancy power tools in the studio, but these shown here are used on every piece I've ever done for the past 20 years.

Lampes flamme d'une bougie

A Little Something that no one has ever seen before:
A moving candle flame enveloped in a glass globe.

The combination of these two impossible components are quite charming when viewed. Of course, it's only a very convincing illusion. These unique electric bulbs simulate the color and actual physical movement of a burning candle flame. We have used these bulbs in our designs for the past 13 years, but we find this 'globe and flame' combination to be one of the most surprising usages. Natural aged brass and antique barnwood (late 1700's) are our signature materials- creating an image that is simultaneously contemporary and ancient. Only one pair was created in this style. Ultra low-wattage candle bulbs included. Designed, built, signed and dated by Art Donovan. Numbered #1/2 and #2/2.

The only thing you need to resist is the urge to blow out the candles when you leave the house.

"Caravan" A pair of very new wall lamp designs- One-of-a-Kind pieces. The lampshade ( the mosque dome configuration, of which I have been thoroughly obsessed for years) is hand-carved mahogany (ebonized) with a pure white spun filament diffuser on the face and sides. The translucent Lucite diffuser on the bottom veils the light source. The lamp body is made of solid brass with a satin finish. The over-sized, handmade silk tassel is 22" long with antique gold details. Overall length is 34" and 11.25" at it's widest point. Designed, hand made, signed and dated by Art Donovan.
